KT WiBro surpasses 100,000 subscribers
The number of subscribers to KT Corp.s WiBro service has surpassed 100,000, the company said yesterday. KT started offering a high-speed mobile internet service based on the mobile WiMax technology, dubbed as WiBro, in Seoul and nearby areas in April this year. The service allows high-speed access even in a fast-moving car, by blanketing entire cities with wireless connections.The countrys top fixed-line and broadband internet provider has drawn more subscribers than SK Telecom Co., the countys top mobile carrier which has 962,000 subscribers to its mobile internet service T-Login. WiBro has been chosen as one of the international standards for third-generation mobile telecommunication technologies, which are known as 3G.KT said last week that it signed a contract to introduce the technology in the African country of Rwanda.
